Re: Another two
That is good to hear, Ron. Mine also liked the Wiskas cat pouches, in fact any wiskas brand food, as well as the milk for it, have you tried that yet?
Because he is young, and has been taken in, his body clock must be confused. Do you feed him in the day? If so, that might be why he gets up only in the day. Not now, but when he is at a good weight, you could try putting the food out only at night. This should help him adjust. I say when he is at a good weight because he may drop a few grams doing this, but it is vital to get him nocturnal again if he is to be released.
You are doing an excellent job!

Re: Another two
Poorly/underweight ones do seem to have back to front body clocks, once they are on the mend it seems to sort itself out.
Hope he continues to eat the Whiskas!
Hope he continues to eat the Whiskas!
Re: Another two
The little hog had a very good feed last night and again was eating as I left for work this morning, drinking loads. Now hes eating I can put vitamins on his food, and I will start second round of worming.
Re: Another two
That is great to hear. What does he weigh now? Sounds like he is making a good recovery.

Re: Another two
As we cooked the turkey neck on Cristmas eve to get the jucies ready for making the gravy on Christmas day, I deciced to give the little one a treat, I scraped some meat off the bone and gave it to him he started to eat straight away. And he had a good feed during the night. What a mistake, when I looked into the box this morning what a bloody mess. There was runny poos everywhere. Lost 12g in weight now weighing 162g. Changed food over straight away back to his whiskers turkey in jelly and hes had a couple of good feeds today and plenty of fluids. Will take a look later to see if hes ok.
Re: Another two
Seems better today, just weighed him and he is now 269g. The poos in the box are much firmer eating better and drinking loads, will start is next treatment of wormer tonight.
Re: Another two
You had me worried a bit just then, but if he is eating and drinking now that is a very good sign. This one is a fighter, he really is, just look at how far he has come.

Re: Another two
another night with a weight loss, he is at is lowest weight now of 254g despite the fact that last night he was diving into some wet food then into some live food then as usuall dosn't eat anything during the night, poos dont look to bad can't tell if there are worms in the poos as dont have microscope. Just started him on another course of wormer (telmin) will try and give him antibiotics by mouth a little later on if not will take to vets to give him a jab. Despite I have had him for 22 days now and still looks strong I am now starting to worry.
Re: Another two
Oh, Ron. This has come so unexpectedly. I hope he pulls through, like we all do.
Good luck.

Re: Another two
just got back from vets, he seems to think that the treatment hes already had should have done the job, the fact that he eating and drinking and his poos are near normal he should not be loosing weight. He thinks there is somthing else going on inside. I have now started to worm him again the vet gave him a baytril jab this morning and given me 5 more to give him myself over the next 5 days, maybe the first lot of treatment wasn't for long enough. He says if the worse happens he needs to know asap and will try and get a autopsy done
Re: Another two
He ate a little food and had some drink. Went to sleep for a while came out and had a larger feed went to sleep and hes been back out and had a bigger feed now he gone back to sleep.
It could be a long night.

Re: Another two
He is still with us. Today he weighs 248g. A little down on yesterday. I gave him is baytril jab this morning. He as had a drink of Cimicat which is what the my vets use instead of esbilac. He as no problem drinking. I gave him his wormer on a tiny piece of cheese which I noticed he was having trouble eating. I am wondering now if he as got a mouth problem as he always seem to spend a lot of time at the food bowl but a not alot of food was eaten. And as he as this habit of rubbing his chin across the floor I am wondering if he as teeth problems or ulcers. I will be making his food into soups to day to see if he can take it better.
Re: Another two
poor little guy and how worrying for you.
have you tried syringing him some honey water, honey is good for ulcers and you could add it to a liquid feed, if you syringe it in you can get a look at his mouth too. i had one that refused to eat and made a feed of goats milk, kitten food (wilkos own brand), vits and honey, its really smelly, eventually i left it down in a bowl and it started eating by itself, so i just gradually thickened it up.
i hope he pulls through for you, i know how worrying it can be,my thoughts are with you.

Re: Another two
Things seem to be a little better today, been drinking lots and seem to be having some food, mashed up to a pulp.weighed 248g this morning now weighs 261g and thats after a sloppy poos . hopefully he will have a couple of more feeds before bedtime.
Re: Another two
This must be a worry for you, Ron. Best of luck with him, this is a real Rollar coaster: one minute this one in fine, and the next he is ill again.
Good luck.

Re: Another two
Day 3 of his jabs and wormer. This morning he weighs 258 g up 10g on yesterday morning, he always weight lighter in the morning as he dont eat much at night. This is only the second time he as put on weight in the 25 days I have had him. Off to the vets this morning to get some Royal Canin Convalescence support or The Royal Canin or Hills a/d as this will give him a boost. Dont think there anything wrong with mouth as I mashed up his food into a pulp and he ate the dried food. Hope today I see another increase in weight gain.
Re: Another two
Yes, I too hope he finally starts to put on some weight. You deserve a medal for what you are doing for this Hedgehogs

I wish it would continue to go on, today he looks ill hes had a good drink, but the mess in his box sloppy poos everywhere. Hes making me ill with worry I have given him his jabs, one more to go. He wont eat much if anything. I can't get his bloody mouth open to force feed him, its if he wants to go. The vet wants me to pop in later to see where to go next. If you could see me now you would have thought he had already gone.
Re: Another two
Oh, Ron. He must really mean alot to you, having spent all these days dedicated to him. Sometimes if they wont open their mouth, there is nothing that can be done. You are doing your very best, of that I'm sure. He has been loved and cared for by you, so if he does die, he will die in a warm and safe place.
I hope he wont give up the fight just yet.
Good luck
