At least he is eating. You are doing a good job, so well done. I hope all is going well with him.
What does he now weigh?

Re: Another two
He only had one baytril jab today the other one he had yesterday was a pain killer. he weighs at the moment 280g about 50g less then when he came in 14 days ago.. But he is very strong he as just had a feed of meal worms and a good drink of milk. Tonight I will mix meal worms and cat food together, so if he eats live food hes got to eat a bit of the cat food.
Re: Another two
Good plan Ron. He probably will take in some cat food at the same time.
Which milk replacer do you use?

Re: Another two
I use 2, one comes from the vets called cimicat, The natural food for cats and kittens and the other SHERLEYS Puppy Kitten Lactol Weaning Milk Formula 500g which he loves.
Re: Another two
hes 277 g this morning but he hes messed everywhere, poo and wee. I made him a cocktail of food last night, crickets, mealworms and a little cat food, hes eaten about 1/2 table spoon. But as drunk a fair bit of milk. There is some white gunge in the box which is good as the vet wants a sample to test tonight.
Re: Another two
well he as just had a good drink, hes had his last jab of baytril,he now having a sleep in his box on the heat pad and hes eaten a little today, will try him on some biscuits soaked in milk tonight.. He as a funny habit of rubbing his chin across the floor when he comes out of the box, not quite sure what this is yet but spoke to Kay Bullen today and she says they may be something wrong with the mouth area. The vet says he could have another jab tomorrow or wait and see how he gets on over the weekend. And if your wondering who gave him the last jab it was me.
Re: Another two
Wow Ron!!! Big well done to you!!
How was it?
Hopefully he'll eat tonight and there will be a weight gain come morning.

Re: Another two
well I think it may have hurt me more than the hog, I felt a little sick afterwards knowing what I have just done, up until recently I have had teeth pulled at the dentist without injections because my phobia is so bad. hes sat behind me now being a right little pig I have never seen him eat so well, just hope this carries on all night. he is eating a Cow and Gate baby biscuit soaked in milk.
Re: Another two
Wow Ron, great news that you have overcome your phobia of injections! That is something to be really proud of, well done.
If the Hedgehog is eating then you are doing everything right, this has been a real journey for both you and the Hedgehog, with all the trips to the vet etc.
Good job!
Bethany.

Re: Another two
He was weighed this morning and he was 277g a little down on yesterday, last night he was eating some biscuit soaked in milk and just as I went to bed he was really tucking into some cat food, but got up this morning and not much had gone, but he had some and thats a start. The floor of the box was a horrible mess looks like a upset tummy so I have taken him of the milk and put in some hydration water mix and see if he will get better on this, as I left for work he had a small amount of mealworms then did a normal poo.
Re: Another two
The upset tummy might be down to some bad food. They all respond differently to certain types of food, so he might not like the milk.
I hope he gets better soon. Do you think it could be to do with him rubbing his chin on the floor?

Re: Another two
I dont know what this chin rubbing hes doing is for, I spoke to an hedgehog expert yesterday and as far as she knows never heard of it before. He comes out of his box and lowers his front end and glides along the floor only does it once or twice then walks normal and does it sometimes after a feed. I just wonder because he is next to radiator in the house the milk is going off quick anyway I have took him off it now so we will see what happens to day but despite the weight loss he seem very strong.
Re: Another two
hiya!
well done for the injections
i was wondering if he had a proper sense of smell, some animals sniff low when they've lost it and try to sniff low down, if that makes sense!? you could maybe try and put a drop of olbas oil on a tea-towel and drape that over its box, it might clear its nasal passages if its bunged up?

Re: Another two
I see what you are saying Jo, it could be that. I'm bunged up at the moment, terrible.
Is a nice idea, Jo, to put some olbas oil in his cage.

Re: Another two
Things are looking a bit better this afternoon, I have taken away his milk and put him od hydration water and his last 2 poos have been near normal, no slime yet today. He has been drinking plenty he been out quite a few times eating a little at each sditting. At the moment he is 284g so hes up on this morning and he even pood and weed alot so could have been hevier.
Re: Another two
I have just cleaned him out, there are a few little poos, not sloppy and runny, not eaten much in the night but never has, he keeps coming out in the day for little feeds. He has just had a couple of mouths off cooked mince and a pot of l;ive food and this morning he weighs 282g well up on yesterday morning.
Re: Another two
I think we may have found some food he likes to eat (its only day 17) took him to show my mum last night and she rubbed some whiskers turkey that comes in a packet on his nose and he had a few lumps, got him home and before we went to bed had eaten a few more lumps and was making a lot of noise eating it. Got up this morning and guess what he had not touched any food at all, then after I cleaned them out he comes out sticks his nose in the bowl and never stoped eating till he must have been full and went back to bed. I have never in the 17 days I have had him seen him eat the same wet food twice or for so long. Also I dont think this one is nocturnal. He does all his poos in the daytime as well, nothing at night.
