I collected a hedgie this morning! (Edie)
I got a call at 9am from the vet clinic asking could I go collect a hedgehog that they have had since Friday. They have treated with Frontline for a few ticks they could see but nothing else obviously wrong. They said it has been eating well and is quite cheeky! It's poo seems fine.
He/she (not letting me see yet!) is 248g (as accurate as I can be, I want electronic scales really) and is not as underweight looking as the others I have had that have sadly not made it.
Fingers crossed this one does well.

I'm crossing my fingers!
I really do hope it makes it. Looks like people know you look after Hedgehogs!

I have a 'deal' with a nearby vet - they help me by providing free treatment and in return I take in hedgehogs brought to them by the general public. They also give my number when people phone them for advise.
I also have some free business cards (vista print) which I have handed out to people I know, but they in turn have passed on my details - I went on home visit a few weeks ago to advise on a small hedgehog a retired couple wanted to over winter but wanted advice.
Locally word has got round too, people in the village have known for a couple of years that I am the 'Hedgehog Lady' and have brought them to my door.
I do a talk to Year 4 at the school I work in when they study habitat in the last term, and my eldest son is at Middle school who are now aware of what I do.
My lovely husband has told people too, so yes people know!!
I have just been out to the hedgehog and he/she has pooped, wee'd and eaten a little.

Glad to hear it is doing well!
Have you thought of a name for it yet?

I like to know the sex before naming, so I hope I will be able to tell soon.
Re: I collected a hedgie this morning! (Edie)
He/she has eaten a little, I have seen what looks like chewed and spat out food.
Re: I collected a hedgie this morning! (Edie)
So you still don't know the gender? Sounds like s/he is doing well at the moment. Good job
Re: I collected a hedgie this morning! (Edie)
Well, SHE is a lively girl!! Got her out to check feet, legs etc. Put newspaper on the kitchen worktop and off she shot!!
Her name is Edie - I said "oh wow she's speedy" and so the name came about - Speedy Edie!
What I thought was spat out food we think was poo, how nice....pooing in your dinner!
She has walked through her water dish, into the food dish and back - typical hedgehog behaviour!!

Re: I collected a hedgie this morning! (Edie)
I will try to get a photo later.
She has eaten - I had a bit of both wet and dry cat food in but she only only had a small amount of dry. When I got in from work at 1.30pm I put a little puppy food in, checked at 3pm and the wet cat food was eaten! Talk about awkward!!! I have now filled her bowl with a little of everything mixed up, we shall see what she thinks of that!
She is pooing loads and it looks fine which is great.

Re: I collected a hedgie this morning! (Edie)
Have just got some photo's of Edie!
I want to give her Pancur, just to be sure she is well. Don't want to put it on her food as at the moment she is being picky enough so she had it orally.

Is Eddie still doing good?
I sure hope so, the little cutie.
Oh, and would you like me to put her photos on the picture section for you too?

Re: I collected a hedgie this morning! (Edie)
I am so sorry I haven't been here for a couple of days.
Edie is doing well, she knows what food she does and doesn't like, her weight is slowly going up.
I have just put a couple of these photo's as well as new ones in a new thread in the photo section.

Good news Trish!
She is on the road for release. Have you found anything else wrong with her apart from her being underweight?

No, nothing. She seems very well, not that it stops me worrying and almost holding my breath every time I check her.
