Edie - weight loss Empty Edie - weight loss

I have had Edie here since 9th November 2008. She was small, just 248g. Her weight has gone up, but rarely above 600g (got to 683g but didn't stay there long). She hasn't hibernated. She has eaten every night, food adjusted according to if bowl clean or some left, you know how it is.

Just lately she has been losing a little, but she seems to pace every night, sometimes causing bleeding on her feet.

Yesterday I gave her a check, not done it for a couple of weeks. Feet look good, not sore. Eyes, nose clear, alert and her usual self looking, apart from the fact she looks underweight, and on weighing I discovered she has gone down to just over 500g. (worming up to date). Last night I put more food in, hoping she would finish it all but she has barely touched it.

For the first time her nest is a lovely dome shape, not the usual mess - could it be she has decided now to hibernate?

confused Anyone?

Hmmm. Sometimes Hedgehogs will stop eating just before they hibernate, it could well be that.

I hope she puts on some more weight soon, 500grams is ok though.

You are doing a good job, even though she has lost a bit of weight.

Bethany.
