Getting ready for release
Edie has been ready for some time, just the weather hasn't been!! She hasn't hibernated, and has been here for 5 months. She was small when she first arrived, has grown nicely. Scooby has been hibernating for 10 weeks - he too has been here a few months, not quite so long as Edie.
Today I collected some dry leaves, and made her a nest box full which I have put in her cage. This is the first natural bedding for her! Scooby will have the same soon.
My husband has fixed another door frame to my shed - half has chicken wire the other half will have when I go get some tomorrow. Then, I will leave the proper shed door open and closing the new one. The natural air and light will get in which Edie and Scooby (who is still hibernating) will get used to before going to their new home - my in-laws lovely big garden. Edie will sometime during the school Eaaster break, Scooby once he has woken and I know he is OK.

Re: Getting ready for release
Most of my hedgehogs are now in the outside pens ( http://rons-hedgehogs.webs.com/myhedgehogrun.htm ) have now got three pens, all are awake and eating like pigs. One hog is mounting anything that moves but I am sure he is with all males. Not seen any wild ones yet hope the are still hibernating. The little one that wasnt putting weight on as soon as he was put in the pens started to well and now is gaing weight. So soon all seven will be released, one is going back the the person that found him and some will be released by me. Still would like to get some females.
Re: Getting ready for release
It was nearly this time last year my Hedgehogs had to go, a sad and joyful time.
Lets hope you can release yours soon, the weather has not been its best.
Bethany.
