Hi I'm Cazza
Hello all and what a fab forum!!
I love hedgehogs. They are my favourite British mammal and I have been an active hedgehog carer for nearly 3 years now. I started out by accident when I found 2 young, very underweight, juvenile hogs in my garden just before Christmas. I homed them in my shed over Winter and provided food and medical support (with help from The Hedgehog Helpline). Come the following Spring I released them and they came back nightly after that!!
I kept in touch with the Hedgehog Helpline, who invited me along to their carers day, provided me with the basics etc and that was it I was away! I had in almost 150 hogs in the first year and I was happy to be able to release over 2 thirds of them. I also began using my alternative health background alongside conventional treatment on the hogs and I now regularly use homeopathy and flower remedies to help treat sick and injured hogs and hoglets. I have found homeopathy invaluable for the hogs I've even sent homeopathic treatments for hogs to people in other areas of the UK and abroad
Earlier this year I worked with Hugh Warwick and Iolo Williams on the BBC Wales programme Not In My Nature. I was filmed working with a young hoglet and interviewed about hogs and one of my successfully treated adult hogs was tagged and released on the programme too. I also had some of my hedgehog home video footage featured on Springwatch in May.
At the moment I only have in 2 hogs as I'm 6 months pregnant with my first baby. I've reluctantly had to take a step back from too much wildlife care as I've been in and out of hospital since early pregnancy. I can't wait to be able to get back into it fully again after the baby is born
