Harley
Harley came in on 15.11.08. he weighed 450 grams but weighing him last night has gone down to 400 grams! Removed a couple more ticks and some really big fleas (think they were fleas.) I had rid-mited him, so not entirely sure how these survived
He was good stood more or less still while I removed the ticks from behind his ear. Looks a bit thin at the rear end so maybe another dose of worm treatment is needed?

Re: Harley
hi all!
harleys not looking to good at the moment, am now hand feeding him a chicken soup concoction aswell as baytril and panacur
hes just all of a sudden gone down hill and am hoping hes not going to end up like katie did (think they might've been siblings) but its not good. will feed him through the night and see how he is tomorow.

Re: Harley
i really don't understand whats going on with these poor things, i've never seen any go downhill as quick as this
it really is about time something more was done to find out whats going on,if we're losing this many this quick this year, then how many are we going to lose next year??
i guess i'm up all night tonight (was just catching back up on my sleep) and its my brothers b'day tomorow, so i'll have to take him with me, cat carrier, heat pad, meds etc etc!??
thats if hes still with us in the morning, with katie i took that as a good sign but after what happened with her, i'm not so sure it is anymore

Re: Harley
I will keep my fingers crossed for you, I keep thinking where did I do wrong with my little hog but when I read other people are having simalar problems of hogs going down hill so fast maybe it was'nt me.
Re: Harley
thanx. definately wasn't you.
alot of people are having this trouble
just gave him another feed and when i put him back he was sick, so i'm honestly not expecting him to make it throught the night.
its the same behaviour that katie displayed and she went downhill really fast.

Re: Harley
What sort of green? I took Horace to the vet this morning with a sample of his, light green jelly like and very smelly - she said campylobacter so he is on Baytril, luckily you have him on Baytril so fingers crossed.
Re: Harley
hes looking bad to be honest
i've moved him into a cat carrier, placed fleece liner and hes in a towel with a hot water bottle and seems more comfortable. at least theres that.
when he first went ill the poop was cream jelly, the second night it was bright green with worm remanents, but he hasn't pooped at all today, was massaging his belly after his last feed (like you would a baby one) he was quite relaxed and widdled over me, its the first one i've seen him do!

hes so weak and keeps drifting in and out. i can't see how hes going to pull through, but am still trying to get down him what i can. at least hes warm and comfortable.

Re: Harley
harley is still with us this morning only just, hes very weak and i've had to put two forms of heat in his carrier. i'm literally forcing him to eat/drink and he seems to want it but can't do it himself
i can't see how he'll last the day, but i've said this for the past 3/4 days, he just seems to want to prove me wrong.
its really got to me how a lively cheeky one like him can go downhill so fast

Re: Harley
It is surprising how quick a hedgehog one minute can be fine and next could be so ill, good luck with this one.
Re: Harley
it has really shocked me how fast hes gone downhill, but also shocking how he seems determined to hold on.
this really needs to be looked into, if we lose the majority of this years juvi's its going to have a huge impact on next years population and even if they do survive will releasing them cause problems too?
